Frequently Asked Questions

Helping you understand how we serve the children of BGCH

Over the past few years, we have met many of you; generous, loyal friends who have listened to us as we shared about the work of BGCH. And as you listened, you had questions. These related to everything from sponsorship and care packages to trips and adoption.  Because of these inquiries, and our need to make sure you stay educated and well informed on how BGCH works, we decided to compile those questions here.

We are in the process of compiling more and more questions here, but let us know if you have a question that is not addressed.  Please fill out the email form below to submit that question.

Sponsorship Questions

Am I the only sponsor for my sponsored child?

No. Unlike many other child sponsorship programs, we provide for ALL of the child’s needs. At BGCH, school aged children are housed on campus 10 1/2 months out of the year. Most other child sponsorship organizations are community development pro- grams where the child lives at home, but is given supplemental supplies to help meet various needs. Because our arrange- ment presents a much greater cost, we have chosen to divide the burden of sponsorship
between two sponsors in order to keep the cost for sponsor- ship as low as possible.

What percentage of my funds gets to the children?

Approximately 90% of your sponsorship donation goes directly to the care of the children. Sponsorship funds are used for the following: to purchase food ( we supply three meals/day), pro- vide uniforms, buy birthday and Christmas presents, provide both elementary and secondary education—including tuition for college and Bible schools, maintain buildings and
grounds, cover medical needs and supplies, as well as pay salaries for teachers and house parents. The remaining 10% is used for administrative costs.

Does my donation go only to my sponsored child?

No. All of the donations that are submitted for sponsorship are pooled together in order to meet the needs of all children. If you miss a month, your child will still be fed, clothed, and taken care of. Each child does not have his/her own separate account.

How much does sponsorship cost?

For the past 10 years, our suggested amount for sponsorship has been $30/month. We have hung on to that number as long as we could, but in reality, even if both sponsors give every month, that does not cover all of the expenses. For this reason, sponsorship is now the adjusted amount of $35/month per sponsor. That being said, any gift given, no matter the size, is graciously and humbly accepted and we will never turn away a willing sponsor.
